NEW YORK, (N.Y.): " An MTA bus driver is being hailed as a hero after he caught a 7-year-old girl who fell off of an air conditioner outside of a third-floor window in an apartment complex in New York City.
Steve St. Bernard came home from the end of his shift as an MTA bus driver and saw a 7-year-old girl that had crawled out on an air conditioning unit of her third-floor apartment. She was dancing, unafraid or unaware of the danger.

"I ran over there hoping that she wouldn't fall when I got there she was still standing there and I just positioned myself hopefully I would catch her," said Bernard.

Bernard made the catch, but was injured in the process. He suffered a muscle tear in his arm but said he'll be fine.

The Public Housing Authority said tenants don't need window guards on windows with air conditioning units. The NYPD said no charges were filed against the parents." - From The Article from YNN here.

In my eyes, I think this guy is a hero. Such a Saint to do such a non-selfish thing risking himself for this girl. I mean, dealing being a bus driver with the rude people on the bus day in and day out. Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary things. And He did the right thing after coming home from work and catching this little girl as she jumped and risking himself, Wow! I have a lot of respect for this guy. I heard about this news story while listening to WBLS in the car radio today while heading to New York and the whole story surprised me. Apparently, he was honored at a stadium at 5:00 PM Today for this and will recieve the 107.5 WBLS Heroes Award that is rarely given out in the mail.
And he says he's not a hero and he doesn't deserve any praise, He Does. Stephen St. Bernard, you're a great guy Thank you for this nice deed you have done.

Nice Job Bernard! Being a past New Yorker, living in Jersey now hearing things like this make me happy to have been and always will be a New Yorker. You know the saying, "Once a New Yorker, Always a New Yorker."
